February, 1945

When Taiwan returned from Japan's occupation in 1945, what were left were the ashes of war. The first priority was to build a new country with newly educated people. Thus, the local officials and influential gentlemen in Gung-guan vicinity decided to transform the former agricultural vocational school in the era of Japan into a secondary school, titled as the Private Hsin-min Junior Middle School. Mr. Ding-biao Hsu ( ®}©w¼Ð ), a former governor of Gung-guan Township in Japan era, was the first principal.

January, 1948

Mr. Ding-biao Hsu ¡]®}©w¼Ð¡^ retired, and Mr. Deh-lung Zo ¡]¹Q¼wÀs¡^ succeeded to his position as Principal.

May, 1940

The board of directors promulgated, and Mr. Kwo-tsai Liu ¡]¼BÁï¤~¡^ was elected as chairman. His previous two chairmen were Mr. Gan-lai Tang ¡]´ö¥Ì¨Ó¡^ and Mr. En-yuan Liu ¡]¼B®¦·½¡^ respectively.

1951

Mr. Wen-fa Hwang ¡]¶À¤åµo¡^ , a later county magistrate, brought 5 roots of Snow Pine back from Japan. One of them was planted beside the school gate and it remains to be the only one that has survived ever since. The tree is 50 years old now and it is a rare and treasured tree in the county.

November,1960

Due to financial constraint, the board of directors decided to pass the school management to the Gung-guan Township Office. Mr. Hsiang-mu Lai ¡]¿à¿³¨N¡^ was the elected chairman.

August, 1961

The county started to run the school and changed the title into Gung-guan Junior Middle School with Mr. Hu-hsi Hsu ( ®}ªê³ß ) sent from the provincial government to manage it. Under the title of Private Hsin-min Junior Middle School, we have a total of 13 batches of graduates.

August, 1968

Nine-year compulsory education was implemented, and the school's title turned to its present title, Gung-guan Junior High School. All the King Coconut Trees in front of the classrooms were planted then. Nine batches of graduates followed the previous ones, under the title of Gung-guan Junior Middle School.

September, 1970

Mr. Dien-chen Chang ( ±i·µ¦Ú ) carried on the task of his predecessors. During his ten years' term, he not only increased the number of general classrooms and subject classrooms, but he also built a sheltered activity center to meet the need of the abruptly increasing students. Principal Chang stressed balance on four dimensions of students' development. Besides keeping superior rate of graduates, he pushed girls' softball sport forward to win several first or second titles nation wide. With his contribution, many of the school players turned out to be members of our national team in the years later.

May, 1974

Mr. Hsin-tsai Zeng ¡]´¿·s°]¡^ , one of the first school year alumni, , donated to build a National Father's statue in the court yard of the school.

Mr. Ji-hsiang Liu ( ¼B¦N²» ) succeeded to the position of principal. For six years, Mr. Liu had earnestly devoted himself to the development of the school. He even paid attention in details and the school worked efficiently. Unfortunately, he fell sick from persistent overwork and passed away when a heart attack stroke him, putting teachers, students, and all walks of life in grief and memory. The dean of academic affairs, Mr. Ming-guang Lo ¡]ù©ú¥ú¡^ , took charge of the school affairs temporarily.

February, 1987

Mr. Wen-chen Ho ( ¦ó¤å žn ) succeeded to the position. He focused on life education, with effects on art and moral in particular.

1992

One jia (Chinese hectare) of adjacent land south-west to the school was purchased for the construction of a track-and-field ground, which was a big leap for the development of the school.

February, 1994

Principal Wen-hung Huang ( ¶À¤å§» ) took charge of the school. He was later transferred to Da-lun Junior High School ¡]¤jÛ°ê¤¤¡^ in July, 2001. During his 7-year term, a music teaching building was built and music classes became an important feature of the school development. Simultaneously, a subject teaching building, a large and multifunction activity center and a 300-meter standardized track-and-field ground were constructed on the west side of the school, which enlarged the school capacity to a great extent.

August, 1994

Thanks to Principal Wen-chen Ho's ( ¦ó¤å žn ) previous guidance and Mr. Huo-lian Liu's ¡]¼B¤õ³s¡^ detailed project, the first music class in Miao-li County was established.

August, 2001

Principal Wen-hsio Yu ( §E¤å¨q ) followed to manage the school. He started the resource class and install a P&T hotline to facilitate interaction and co-operation between parents and teachers, which earned a reputation of Zero Dropout School for the school. He firmly stressed on bringing up the ability of each student. Thus, both students of music class and general classes performed very well in the multi-channel entrance examination. He actively installed the software and hardware of the school, such as moving the reading room to another location for computerization, filling up the content of school history room, re-equipping the general classrooms, the subject classrooms and the computer classrooms, and establishing Chinese music orchestra and wind music band to perform excellently nation wide. In 2003, before his retirement, he re-arranged the front yard by adjusting the enclosing wall inward to outstand the value of the Snow Pine. He also spread the paths of bricks in front of the school and in the court yard to secure students' movement. During his 3 years' term in the school, he has turned the school into a brand new leaf. So, he retired honorably here after 40 years of service in education.

August, 2004

Principal Hsing-cheng Deng ¡]¾H¿³¼W¡^ succeeded to manage the school. His ideals of managing the school are: a) to enhance humanity and conduct holistic development, b) to shape up structures of learning and pursue excellent education, c) to tap individual learner and spur his or her proficiency, d) to create instructional atmosphere and activate the learning styles of students, e) to stress process of learning and endorse results of working, f) to control overall quality and promote school efficiency. He also asks students to keep five promises: to develop virtues, to observe disciplines, to treasure school equipment, to behave well, and to study diligently. He decides to maintain six creeds of excellence: excellence of faculty, excellence of instruction, excellence of surroundings, excellence of capacity, excellence of administration, and excellence of quality. Thanks to devotion from his predecessors, appropriate direction under our government, caring and support from local officials and celebrities, and teamwork among every member of the school, the school has been well-founded on the basis of increasing classrooms, more and more splendid campus and richer and richer capacity. At present, we not only have pristine school climate and unique campus, but we also have excellent and enthusiastic faculty teaching diligent and disciplined students. With a superior tradition and an outstanding reputation, the school has become an ideal place for students to pursue education. Hopefully, the school will continue to excel her features and remain to be a first-rate school for students to learn in a warm and merry atmosphere under teamwork of each member and support from all walks of life.
